The World Information and Early Warning System on Plant Genetic Resources (WIEWS) database was created as a monitoring system for the state of plant genetic resources globally, following a mandate set out in the International Undertaking on Plant Genetic Resources, Articles 7.1 (e) and (f), and managed by the FAO Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture. Currently, WIEWS monitors indicators for the Second Global Plan of Action on Plant Genetic Resources and for Sustainable Development Goals 2.5.1 and 2.5.2 on Plant and Animal Genetic Resources.
